Peer Educator Program

A Step Ahead Peer Educators are trained campus ambassadors who share information about A Step Ahead’s services, connect peers with resources, and increase awareness of free long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) on their campus.

Interested in becoming

a Peer Educator? 

​​Peer Educators help students access accurate, approachable information because they are fellow students. They increase awareness of A Step Ahead’s services, answer general questions, and connect peers with available resources and support when needed. 

 

What Peer Educators do:

 

  • Increase awareness of A Step Ahead’s services and resources on campus

  • Share accurate, evidence-based information to reduce misinformation

  • Answer general questions about A Step Ahead of Middle TN

  • Connect students with staff and available resources

  • Distribute A Step Ahead materials across campus

  • Support peers in accessing services if they choose

 

What Peer Educators are:

 

  • Trained student ambassadors for A Step Ahead of Middle TN

  • A campus resource connector for peers seeking information

  • A trusted source of general, evidence-based information about A Step Ahead’s services

  • A link between students and A Step Ahead staff and resources

  • Supportive peers who help raise awareness through outreach and campus engagement

Why would I want to be a Peer Educator? 

 

As an A Step Ahead Peer Educator, students will be seen as trusted resources and leaders on campus. Educators have the opportunity to gain the community or volunteer hours often required in academic programs. Through various events, students will also have the opportunity to network with other community resources with the official PE title and affiliation with an established, non-profit organization. As students progress through the Educator Program, there are tiers of benefits they can access as tasks are completed, including referrals, reference letters and career development. Students may also receive recognition on our social media pages and website.
